This project began with the loss of my grandmother, the last link to life in Korea before our family’s migration. It reflects on roots, memory, and the quiet longing that connects generations across time and distance.
The mountain symbolizes stability and desire — distant, constant, yet unreachable. Because of the border, it cannot be visited, yet Mt. Kumgang remains present in the mind, carrying a silent and deeply rooted sense of longing.
In Resonating Mountains, each piece resonates with the others, forming a landscape of memory, connection, and inheritance that extends beyond separation.
Dit project ontstond na het verlies van mijn grootmoeder, de laatste schakel met het leven in Korea vóór de migratie van onze familie. Het reflecteert op wortels, herinnering en het stille verlangen dat generaties met elkaar verbindt, over tijd en afstand heen.
De berg staat symbool voor stabiliteit en verlangen — ver weg, constant en toch onbereikbaar. Door de grens kan men er niet komen, maar Mt. Kumgang blijft aanwezig in de geest en draagt een stille, diepgewortelde heimwee.
In Resonating Mountains resoneert elk werk met de andere en ontstaat een landschap van herinnering, verbondenheid en erfgoed dat verder reikt dan scheiding.
